In 2025, it’s no secret that we have a major issue with plastic. For many years, companies pushed the burden of plastic onto the consumer, making recycling their responsibility and leaving little option to purchase products that don’t involve the material.
However, with microplastics showing up in pristine Antarctic snow and even in our brains, it’s clear this approach isn’t working.
While the food industry gets the majority of the blame and attention for its reliance on single-use plastics to package drinks and food items, the cleaning industry is also a major contributor to the volume of plastic that eventually ends up in landfills, where it pollutes the earth and waterways.
From spray bottles that leech toxic chemicals to plastic fibres in clothes and scourers, the majority of cleaning products have a heavy environmental footprint. And while consumers are starting to use their purchasing power to opt for reusable cleaning solutions that come in the form of dissolvable tablets or dilutable solutions, this doesn’t account for the commercial side of things.
Viking Pure Solutions is on a mission to reduce the amount of single-use plastics coming from the cleaning industry and offer commercial sites like hospitals with safe, toxic-free cleaning solutions.
The power of water
Viking Pure Solutions uses electrolyzed water technology to offer a safe, non-toxic solution for the cleaning industry. The Green Seal-certified cleaning and disinfecting solutions that this technology creates offer a unique way to reduce the amount of plastic in the supply chain and protect workers from harmful chemicals.
Keeping public spaces and sensitive areas clean and free from disease is extremely important. However, disinfection often relies on harsh solutions that are bad for the environment and leave harmful traces that can affect the people responsible for cleaning, the general population and even damage equipment like machinery or hospital beds due to their corrosive nature.

The danger of chemical solutions is worsened when they are applied through aerosols or nozzles that are helpful for distributing liquids but make them airborne as a result.
Liquid cleaners and aerosol sprays release byproducts called VOCs (volatile organic compounds) into the air. These noxious gases could trigger asthma, lower immunity, resulting in frequent respiratory infections, and even promote cancer.
Viking Pure Solutions offers a revolutionary new approach that relies on a powerful water-based cleaning and disinfection product to remove these risks.
On-site production of cleaning solutions
The company uses a patented process to create two main products, Viking Pure Disinfecting Solution (active ingredient Hypochlorous Acid) and Viking Pure Cleaning Solution (active ingredient Sodium Hydroxide). They are made when salt is combined with water and electrochemically activated on-site using patented machines from Viking Pure Solutions.
Hypochlorous acid, the disinfecting agent in electrolyzed water, is recognized for its broad-spectrum antimicrobial activity. It is effective against a wide range of pathogens, including bacteria, fungi, and viruses (including the flu, norovirus, and COVID-19).
Meanwhile, Sodium Hydroxide offers a heavy-duty degreaser that breaks down fat, oil, and proteins. It’s effective against grease and mold, eliminates odor, and can be used on both hard and soft surfaces – including carpeting and upholstery. Like hypochlorous acid, it is approved by both the USDA and the FDA.
Further, this innovative startup installs equipment onsite, meaning companies can produce their own supply of cleaning products as needed. This reduces greenhouse gas emissions across the supply chain and means that commercial users can now greatly reduce the amount of single-use plastics.
