I’ve been known to go on Foursquare binges – racking up mayoral rights and points like a true pro, but the appeal fades quickly. Bored and unmotivated, I reach full check-in fatigue and disappear from the grid all together. Despite its fickle nature, my use of geosocial apps is actually above average considering that only 12% of smartphone owners use sites like Foursquare and Gowalla ( seriously, who is using Gowalla?).
A study conducted by the Pew Research Center found that while a not-surprisingly small amount of smartphone owners use social check-in sites, more than a quarter of American adults use mobile or social location-based services. The below infographic takes a look into who these users actually are.
Side note: Seriously, can someone please do an infographic on what kind of people use Gowalla other than their staff?
