Central Ohio will be getting 600 more jobs soon, according to a report from the Columbus Dispatch, as shipping and delivery giant UPS will be expanding the two package hubs it has in the Ohio capital. In addition, UPS is planning to hire a thousand seasonal workers to last during the holiday season, the report stated. One of every three seasonal workers gets hired full-time, according to UPS data. “We have a variety of jobs and shifts available here in Columbus, and I’d encourage anyone looking for a part-time or full-time job with good pay and benefits to come to the job fair to learn more,” said UPS human-resources operations manager Chelsea Allison in a statement. “I’ve seen firsthand that these jobs can be a foot in the door for a great career at UPS.” The positions for hire include package handlers and tractor-trailer operators and would be from either the Columbus or Obetz package hubs. The news comes on the heels of other companies announcing major job growth in the region as well. Amazon has said it will make 1,500 more job opportunities in Ohio when it builds another distribution center in West Jefferson. This will add on to the 2,000 jobs that UPS already gives out in Central Ohio. According to the Dispatch:
Wages for package-handler jobs start at $10.35 per hour, and at $18.75 for tractor-trailer drivers. The jobs come with other benefits, and part-time employees who are in college are eligible for tuition assistance. In addition to the job fair, job seekers can apply at UPSjobs.com.
