Apple Jumps the Gun on iCloud Invites

The iCloud is here! Actually, whoops, not quite yet. According to AppleInsider, an email was sent out into cyberspace on Friday welcoming the lucky recipient, Sam, to the new iCloud. Per the email, “just follow these instructions and you’ll be up and running in no time”. However, the page behind the link is not yet available, leading one to believe this email was sent a wee bit early — and unintentionally, considering the opening line of the email is a welcome message that provides their iCloud user id for setting up nearly every gadget one owns. The iCloud’s official page still teases a “coming this fall” banner. It’s been long expected and/or assumed that the iCloud would be a topic addressed at Apple’s big reveal of the iOS 5 set for Tuesday, but the email preview boasts, “it stores your content and wirelessly pushes it to all your devices. For example, buy a song with iTunes on your computer, and it will appear on your iPod touch and iPad.” What’s more, “When you snap a photo on your iPhone it will automatically be sent to your iPad. You can start creating a Pages document on your iPhone, and put the finishing touches on it from your iPad. There’s no need to dock or syn to your computer. With iCloud, it just works.” AppleInsider points out that Apple has been evaluating portions of the iCloud service in beta versions of the iOS 5.0 and Mac OS X 10.72.
