9 New Startup Apps Worth Investing In

Name one truly outstanding new app from a startup. The following answers are provided by the Young Entrepreneur Council (YEC), an invite-only organization comprised of the world’s most promising young entrepreneurs. In partnership with Citi, the YEC recently launched #StartupLab, a free virtual mentorship program that helps millions of entrepreneurs start and grow businesses via live video chats, an expert content library and email lessons. 1. Cody Cody is an iPhone fitness app for casual exercisers. The Cody team has created a social network around fitness to help support people in reaching their goals. Within a month of launch, the app has been picked up by press and fitness groups across the country and has a 4.5 star rating in the App Store. – Bhavin Parikh, Magoosh Test Prep   2. Field Agent Field Agent actually pays you money. You complete tasks (like taking a picture of a display case at Walmart), and you are paid through the app. It’s gamifying consumer market research, and it’s addictive. This app, created by former P&G employee Rick West, is solving the problem of customer insight acquisition, and it’s doing it really, really well. – Kelsey Meyer, Influence & Co. 3. ProspectSnap ProspectSnap allows you to enter a potential customer’s email into your mail service provider (AWeber, MailChimp, Constant Contact, iContact) straight from your iPhone or iPad. It’s great for those who go to a lot of networking events or conferences.   – Angela Pan, Angela B Pan Photography   4. Shoeboxed Shoeboxed is incredible for saving and categorizing business receipts. No more stuffed envelopes creating clutter for three years — take a photo of your receipt, and it instantly uploads to your account. Or, if you’re a bit forgetful (like me), send an envelope of up to 50 receipts via snail mail for scanning. It’s just $10 per month for the basic plan. -Jenny Blake, Jenny Blake 5. Twist We are notoriously part of a time-based democracy. Twist lets your friends, family and business associates burdened with your tardiness know what time you’ll arrive by sending them a twist, and vice versa. It’s a bidirectional app that solves true pain with a reputational repercussion that happens in high volume. It’s simple, automatic and acts in real time. – Matt Ehrlichman, Porch 6. Venmo Though it’s not really a startup anymore, Venmo is still amazing. It allows you to send payments easily to your friends and coworkers without the hassle of keeping receipts and managing PayPal accounts. It’s great for splitting up checks, collecting reimbursements and even paying rent. Venmo changes lives! – Heidi Allstop, Spill   7. Mailbox Mailbox is creating a lot of buzz in the tech world, and for good reason. This app makes mobile inbox cleanup more efficient than ever. By simplifying the process of new mail into three decisions, users can quickly sort through mail by deciding to keep, trash or save for later — accomplished by simple gestures of swiping on your mobile device. Mailbox is a truly outstanding app. – Jay Wu, Best Drug Rehabilitation 8. MobileDay Because I’m often traveling during scheduled conference call times, I’m a huge fan of MobileDay. It has enabled one-touch into any conference call on any conference provider. The app syncs with your phone’s calendar and auto-detects the conference call details within your meeting invites. It’s a must-have for entrepreneurs on the go. -Sarah Schupp, UniversityParent 9. Backspaces Backspaces is like Instagram meets Tumblr, and it’s definitely the best social platform I’ve seen for truly telling stories through images. – Derek Flanzraich, Greatist
