Gnilley, which first debuted during Australia’s Game Jam Conference in 2010, was merely retro game concept with a unique twist: yelling. Game creators hope that a newly launched Kickstarter fund will help turn the concept into a product.
What makes this game interesting is that its environment, as well as your enemies, can be affected by using a microphone – a feature that Radix said ended up being about “YELLING AT EVERYTHING.”
The game features traditional controls using directional buttons, but it also utilizes a microphone to attack enemies, remove obstacles, and perform other quirky actions. Changes are affected by both pitch and volume, and sometimes even require players to scream at oncoming enemies to defeat them. Radix said the game was inspired by old NES titles like The Legend of Zelda and Kid Icarus, in which you could yell at merchants to make them lower their prices. The company believes Gnilley will fill the void of voice control in video games in a big way.

height=350Radix is asking for a pretty reasonable $10,000 for development, which will be used primarily to hire a small team of people and purchase a multi-platform software license. Backers will receive a copy of the game upon its release, early beta access, limited edition posters, glow-in-the-dark t-shirts, the chance to design their own level within the game, and even a limited edition microphone – all depending upon the level of their pledge. The fund is currently almost at $1,000 with 37 backers and about a month left to go.
The company is looking to develop the game for mobile devices and desktops, and hopes the game will be a platform for all kinds of yelling. The developer plans to put a great deal of content into the game, including many mini-games, which will explore other uses for microphone gameplay, like creating a bubble around your character so they can breathe underwater, or racing a car.
